American Airlines sees mainline carriers taking bigger role in serving small to midsize airports

American Airlines CEO Doug Parker, speaking at the CAPA Aviation Summit 2016, stated (12-Apr-2016) small to medium sized markets remain important to the airline's network; however, he is not certain how much growth potential exist on those routes. There is not enough traffic to support point to point service on those flights, but the large hub and spoke systems of network airlines allow those carriers to offer service to smaller markets.
