American Airlines in "advanced talks" with Brazilian carrier (possibly GOL) to join oneworld

American Airlines CFO, Tom Horton, stated the carrier is in "advanced talks" with a Brazilian carrier about joining oneworld (Reuters, 25-Feb-2010). Brazil's largest airline, TAM, is scheduled to join the Star Alliance in 1H2010, while that nation's second largest airline, GOL, is currently not a member of an alliance, but has a codeshare agreement with American Airlines.

AMR: "I think we are seeing an evolution, seeing these alliances become tighter-knit partnerships. They started as loose marketing agreements, for codesharing, frequent linkages, emergence of global alliance groupings. We are now seeing those groupings forming tight economic relationships," Tom Horton, CFO. Source: Air Cargo News, 25-Feb-2010.
