Allegiant Air has competitors on only 15 routes, 166 routes operate without direct competition

Allegiant Travel stated (02-May-2012) Allegiant Air, which has been profitable for the past 37 quarters, is benefitting from leisure travel being more resilient than business travel. Based on the current published scheduled through 30-Nov-2012, the carrier is operating 181 routes with 62 operating aircraft, covering a network of 68 small cities and 12 leisure destinations. The carrier said only 15 of its routes have competition from other operators (five from Frontier, three from Southwest, one from Hawaiian, three from Spirit, three from AirTran/Southwest and one for Alaska Airlines) compared to 166 without direct competition. The carrier also noted it is able to operate its network with low frequency and in reaction to seasonality. [more - original PR]
