Airports Authority of India completes 50% of non-metro airport construction projects

Airports Authority of India (AAI) Chairman, VP Agarwal, announced the modernisation programme for 35 non-metro airports is now 50% complete (The Hindu, 05-Feb-2010). Airport projects in Tiruchirapalli and Vishakapatnam have been completed, while projects in Mangalore, Mysore, Thiruvananthapuram, Rajamundhry, Vijayawada and Cudappah are nearing completion. Mr Agarwal stated AAI is considering plans to upgrade Salem and Thoothukudi airports, while construction at Madurai is being expedited. Mr Agarwal added 35 Indian airports have obtained ISO certification. Mr Agarwal also stated India will implement the Space Augmentation System (SPAS) by 2013.
