Air India requires USD2.2bn in government funding to ensure survival

India's Civil Aviation Minister Vayalar Ravi reportedly stated Air India requires more than INR100 billion (USD2.2 billion) from the central government to ensure its survival (Economic Times/Indian Express, 17-Feb-2011). However, he did not specify if this would be in the form of equity infusion or soft loans.
