Aer Lingus believes Irish Government planning to sell its 25% stake

Aer Lingus CEO, Christoph Mueller believes the Irish Government is currently planning to sell its 25% stake in the carrier, stating the government sees the stake as a "short term" investment (Independent.ie, 20-Sep-09). Mr Mueller also stated that the carrier has no plans for a rights issue and is not planning to sell off the airline, but may consider a partnership. Aer Lingus plans to "drastically" cut services and look for new sources of revenue. Ryanair has not responded to the reports.
