63 airports in India operating without valid licence: DGCA
India's Director General of Civil Aviation has told the Bombay High Court that as many as 63 airports in India, including those in Mumbai, Delhi, Kochi and Hyderabad, are operating without a valid licence (PTI, 28-Oct-2010). The court directed the DGCA to take further steps to issue licences for the airports. The DGCA has the responsibility to make a safety audit of airports before granting a licence to operators, including the Airports Authority of India, according to the affidavit.
