  • Strikes and passenger taxes were this week's focus.
  • Reynaert: "Joint airline approach gains visibility".

Airlines for Europe continues to attract new members with Volotea joining Europe's largest airline association. The Spanish low cost airline, which operates from bases in France, Italy and Spain, is headquartered in Barcelona.

Volotea joins A4E after a busy week of campaigning in Brussels: the strikes in France and Germany have been strongly criticized as repeated and disproportionate industrial action by ATC unions just means victimising passengers and weakening European airlines; Wednesday's CEO panel session at the European Parliament on passenger taxes has highlighted the importance of their abolition to stimulate growth and create new jobs.

"We are looking forward to working with Airlines for Europe and its member airlines on a focused aviation agenda for Europe. A4E is now our new strong voice to address policy and regulatory issues which are affecting our daily business and should be tackled in the interest of all European passengers", said Carlos Muñoz, CEO of Volotea.

"I am pleased that A4E is attracting new members across all business models and that our joint approach gains more visibility here in Brussels. A week including strikes on the ground, in the air and new threats of higher taxes being imposed across the continent proves the need of a close cooperation among European airlines", said Thomas Reynaert, A4E's Managing Director.
