Solomon Airlines Seghe Airport Services Update

Direct News Source

06-Jul-2017 Solomon Airlines has advised that all confirmed passengers flying between Honiara and Seghe affected by the temporary closure of Seghe Airport have been given the option of changing their flights to Munda or Ramata services at no additional cost.

The airline was forced to suspend its Seghe service on 28 June due to the Seghe Airport runway surface having deteriorated to the point where it was deemed unsuitable and unsafe for operations.

In a statement released today, an airline spokesperson advised the Munda and Ramata services would enable passengers travelling between Honiara and the Marovo Lagoon area to utilise boat transfers connecting with the airport as has been the case in the past when Seghe Airport had been forced to close.

"The authorities overseeing the rehabilitation of the runway surface have indicated that the temporary suspension of Seghe Airport will unfortunately be extended to 22 July," the spokespersons said.

"This is due to the extent of the work that has to be carried out as well as construction delays caused by heavy rain in the area.
"While we understand this situation is immensely inconvenient for our passengers and the resorts and lodges in the Marovo Lagoon area, we simply cannot operate into Seghe Airport until the runway situation has been resolved.

"Solomon Airlines apologises unreservedly to our valued clients for any inconvenience the airport closure has caused to their travel plans but we do need to underline the safety of our passengers and air crew is paramount."

Passengers affected by the situation are advised to check regular updates posted on the Solomon Airlines website and also its facebook page.
