Direct News Source

Dec-2017 As the national carrier, the Qantas Group (the Group) is committed to supporting Australian jobs and businesses, and to maintaining its position as one of the key enablers of economic activity in Australia.

This year, Deloitte Access Economics refreshed its study on the Group's contribution to the Australian economy.

The study found that in FY17 Qantas and Jetstar:

  • Contributed $11.6 billion to the Australian economy;
  • Represented 0.7 per cent of Australia's Gross Domestic Product;
  • Supported 56,414 Australian jobs;
  • Contributed $10.7 billion to the tourism industry (an increase of $300 million from FY16); and
  • Supported over 100,000 jobs or one in every nine in the tourism industry.

The Group's unparalleled economic contribution is underpinned by its longstanding commitment to all parts of Australia. Our comprehensive network in regional Australia, support of over 170,000 small businesses via Qantas Business Rewards and extensive procurement of Australian produce, particularly from small and medium-sized businesses, is testament to our dedication to this country.

Furthermore, last week the Group was pleased to release its 2017 Qantas Voluntary Tax Transparency Code Report detailing the payment and collection of a combined total of $3.2 billion in FY17. This was 14 per cent higher than the year prior.
