Qantas adds flights to bring more visitors to Hobart

Qantas has announced it will launch three additional weekly services between Hobart and Sydney, creating new options for customers travelling between Tasmania and the mainland.

From 1 April 2019, Qantas will provide an additional 34,000 seats to Hobart each year using its Boeing 717 110-seat dual class aircraft. The flights have been scheduled to reduce waiting times for travellers from Asia and the United States connecting from international services.

The announcement comes as Qantas and China Eastern representatives chose Hobart as the venue for a regular meeting last week. The meeting was part of frequent joint business meetings between the two carriers and their ongoing commitment to driving visitors to and from Tasmania using the Qantas Domestic network. China Eastern codeshare on Qantas flights across its domestic network.

A record 52,200 Chinese tourists visited Tasmania in the last financial year, with Qantas and China Eastern Airline operating more than 50 weekly codeshare flights between the two countries aimed at supporting ongoing growth.

The additional flights will help connect more travellers between Tasmania, the rest of Australia and beyond.

These additional services add to Qantas' existing schedule of up to 97 flights per week to Tasmania (to Hobart, Devonport and Launceston) from both Sydney and Melbourne. Qantas also recently announced plans to invest in its Hobart lounge with a complete redesign and more space and seating.

The new services will be available for sale from Monday, 26 November 2018. Flights booked at least 60 days in advance of travel will have access to fares starting from $169 one-way.
