Passenger growth continues: Further gains at Schönefeld and Tegel

08-Apr-2014 In March, 2,141,783 passengers took off and landed at Berlin's Schönefeld and Tegel airports. This represents a growth of 2.8 per cent compared to the same period the previous year. During the third month of the year, 552,957 passengers were recorded at Schönefeld (+1.9 per cent) and 1,588,826 passengers at Tegel (+3.1 per cent).

Hartmut Mehdorn, CEO of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: "Passenger numbers at both Tegel and Schönefeld have continued to increase also during the first quarter of this year. We are delighted with this trend. Berlin thus continues to exceed the national average passenger growth."

The number of flight movements in March rose to a total of 20,381 take-offs and landings, which represents an increase of 6.9 per cent compared to the same period the previous year. At Schönefeld, the number of flight movements increased to 5,541 compared to the previous year. This corresponds to an increase of 5.1 per cent. At Tegel there was an increase of 7.5 per cent compared to the previous year. A total of 14,840 flight movements were recorded at Tegel in March.

A total of 5,728,938 passengers used Schönefeld and Tegel airports from January to March, which represents an increase of 5.9 per cent compared to the same period the previous year.

During the first three months of the year, 4,254,122 passengers were recorded at Tegel, which is 6.6 per cent more than in the same period the previous year. Schönefeld Airport at the same time handled 1,474,816 passengers, which is 4.2 per cent more than in the comparison period in 2013.

The number of flight movements all together rose during the first three months of the year to a total of 55,592 take-offs and landings, which represents an increase of 5.6 per cent compared to the same period the previous year. At Schönefeld, the number of flight movements increased to 15,099 compared to the previous year. This corresponds to an increase of 3.7 per cent. At Tegel there was an increase of 6.4 per cent compared to the previous year. A total of 40,493 flight movements were recorded at Tegel from January to March.

Airfreight at Schönefeld and Tegel airports in March amounted to 3,500 tonnes, which represents an increase of 22.3 per cent compared to the same period the previous year.
