Official Opening of the New Passenger terminal of Varna Airport

The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Daniel Papazof, Minister of Transport, Professor Aneliya Klisarova, Education Minister, deputies, diplomats, the mayor of the city, the governor, the chief financial officer of Fraport AG Dr. Matthias Zieschang, the management of Fraport Twin Star Airport Management and others.

Today's event is the result of hard work of thousands of people who planed, designed and performed a truly European Co-Production, called Terminal 2 at Varna airport, said the CEO of Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD Ms Aletta Freiin von Massenbach.

Our city now has a modern European airport that offers quality services to consumers, smart and state-of-the-art interior design, the minister of transport said and added: soon the new terminal at Burgas airport will open. Once constructed, the new terminals automatically become the property of the Bulgarian state. This clearly shows the advantages of attracting private investors in the management and maintenance of priority sites for the state, such as airports, leading to their rapid and high quality modernization.

For Fraport, the engagement to the Bulgarian state is of high importance for us and we rely to our ongoing good partnership, said Dr. Mattias Zieschang.

The head of the Economic department at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bulgaria Mr Thomas Pfanne expressed his belief that this fully private investment will lead to a greater development of the region.

Later on the guests at the inauguration went to a tour guided by the director of the airport Mr. Dimitar Kostadinov and saw the new facility. This was the first of the range of tours that FTSAM AD organizes today for the citizens within the doors open day.

Hundreds of citizens of Varna and their families were part of the feast that the Concessionaire of Varna airport organizes for the day of Varna.

After completion of the activities related to shifting the passenger traffic to the new terminal, from August 27thall passengers of Varna airport will be serviced at the new terminal.

The new passenger terminal at Varna airport covers an area of 20 000 sq.m. which is about 3 times larger than the area for passenger service of the old terminal. The new terminal was designed in a way to comply with the needs of Varna airport and its traffic. Terminal 2 has vast areas for arriving and departing passengers, modern facilities for passenger service and baggage handling and attractive retail areas, as well as comfortable open spaces.

The state-of-the-art interior design was applied as well as state-of-the-art management systems for passengers and baggage, fully integrated separate systems and electronic measuring/weighing and regulation of the terminal processes. Energy efficiency and flexible allocation of the spaces are other advantages of the terminal building.

The design is the work of the well renowned designers and architects and aims to keep the vacation mood of the passengers during their stay at the airport and involves as well elements typical for the Bulgarian architecture and nature.
