Melbourne Airport's February passenger traffic results

20-Mar-2015

Melbourne Airport achieved 13 per cent international growth in February compared to the same period last year, to reach 669,403 international passengers.

Melbourne Airport CEO, Mr Chris Woodruff, said that Victoria's calendar of major global events and international conference program were again the drawcards for international visitors during February.

"The ICC Cricket World Cup attracted visitors from all regions while the Indonesian Tupperware convention and Chinese New Year celebrations helped to boost Indonesian and Chinese passport holders by more than 70 and 30 per cent respectively," said Mr Woodruff.

"With more than 4,000 delegates and an estimated $19 million injection into our state economy, the Indonesian Tupperware convention highlights the importance of our global conference program."

Domestic passengers grew by 4 per cent for the month to reach 1,817,282 passengers.

In February, more than $40 million was reinvested on transformational projects to expand and enhance Melbourne Airport including the extension of Airport Drive, a new domestic terminal, a new transport hub, a tri-generation project, expanded international passenger transit facilities and new airline lounges.
