For August 2012, MAHB operated airports handled 5.7 million passengers, an increase of 13.1% compared to the same period in 2011. Most of the airports operated by the Group registered double digit growth. International passengers increased by 9.6% while domestic passengers rose by 16.7%. The domestic airlines achieved good domestic growth due to the higher festive and school holidays travel demand and lower base in 2011. The higher international sector contribution came from AirAsia Group, Firefly and collectively other foreign airlines all of which individually recorded good double digit year-on-year growth for August 2012.

KLIA's passenger movements registered 11.9% year-on-year increase. Twenty three international airlines operating at KLIA recorded an impressive double digit growth for August 2012. The increase in international passengers was driven mainly by passengers to and from Middle East, South East Asia and Central Asia.

Aircraft movements increased from 52,492 in August 2011 to 54,907 in August 2012. International and domestic movements increased by 6.7% and 3.4% respectively. Similar to other airports in the region, cargo movements continue to record a negative growth. It was down by 3.0% in comparison with August last year.

Year to date up to August, MAHB Group of airports handled 43.8 million passenger movements. This translates into 4.3% growth compared to the first eight months in 2011 last year.
