29-Nov-2017 Qantas Group Media Statement (please attribute to a Jetstar spokesperson)

Flying conditions at Denpasar Airport are predicted to clear tomorrow for a period of time, so we are planning to operate some relief flights out of Bali to get as many people back to Australia as possible.

Volcanic activity and ash cloud are unpredictable and flights may be cancelled at short notice.

Our senior pilots will make further assessment tonight and tomorrow morning based on the latest information from the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre. We will provide customers further updates if the situation changes.

On Thursday, Jetstar and Qantas have ten scheduled flights and will put on an additional six relief flights which will see a total of 3800 people return to Australia. Customers who are booked on these flights are being contacted directly.

There are more than 4000 customers from previously cancelled flights in Bali who are waiting to return to Australia. Tomorrow we are planning to take over 1500 of these customers back to Australia on relief flights.

Qantas will be operating a relief flight on a Boeing 747 jet as part of the recovery of customers in Bali.

We will not be taking customers into Bali tomorrow given the likelihood of further volcanic activity and the potential that conditions change and lead to diversions or further cancellations.

Customers in Australia who have been disrupted or are planning to travel to Bali over the next week are encouraged to consider the alternative options, including a voucher or flying to another international destination such as Ho Chi Minh City, Phuket or Fiji.
