FBB:Passenger volume increase continues: SXF records double figures also in July

06-Aug-2015 In July, 2,701,412 passengers took off and landed at Berlin's Schönefeld and Tegel airports. This represents a growth of 3.8 per cent compared to the same period the previous year. In July, 728,066 passengers were recorded at Schönefeld (+10.8 per cent) and 1,973,346 passengers were recorded at Tegel (+1.5 per cent).

The number of flight movements in July amounted to a total of 22,770 take-offs and landings, which represents an increase of 1.3 per cent compared to the same period the previous year. At Schönefeld, the number of flight movements amounted to 6,208. This corresponds to an increase of 3.0 per cent compared to the previous year. At Tegel, the number of flight movements increased slightly (+0.7 per cent) compared to the previous year. A total of 16,562 flight movements were recorded at Tegel in July.

Karsten Mühlenfeld, CEO of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: "We successfully handled the increased traffic at the start of the holiday period in mid-July. Our employees at both airports did a great job. The next operational challenges are just a few days away, when the surge of homebound traffic begins. We are expecting the busiest day of the year, though, as every year, at the end of September."

A total of 16,433,675 passengers used Schönefeld and Tegel airports from January to July, which represents an increase of 4.3 per cent compared to the same period the previous year.

At Tegel, 11,916,598 passengers were recorded from January to July, which is 1.9 per cent more than in the same period the previous year. Schönefeld Airport at the same time handled 4,517,077 passengers, which is 11.2 per cent more than in the comparison period in 2014.

The number of flight movements all together from January to July rose to a total of 147,846 take-offs and landings, which represents an increase of 1.6 per cent compared to the same period the previous year. At Schönefeld, the number of flight movements increased to 41,960. This corresponds to an increase of 3.3 per cent compared to the previous year. At Tegel there was an increase of 0.9 per cent compared to the previous year. A total of 105,886 flight movements were recorded at Tegel from January to July.

Air freight at Schönefeld and Tegel airports in July amounted to 3,357 tonnes, which represents a decrease of 14.4 per cent compared to the same period the previous year.
