Direct News Source

Following the New Zealand Government's announcement that the entire country will be at Alert Level 1 from 11.59pm on Wednesday 7 October, the following customer experience will apply for travellers. At the airport:

  • Physical distancing is not required at airports during Alert Level 1
  • All check-in kiosks will be available, however, we continue to recommend customers check-in online for their flight using the Air New Zealand mobile app before heading to the airport. Online check-in is available 24 hours before departure
  • Our lounges in Auckland will resume their normal service under Alert Level 1
  • Auckland domestic valet parking will also resume normal operations under Alert Level 1
  • Please note, Fast Bag continues to be unavailable at this time

Onboard the aircraft:

  • Physical distancing continues to not be required onboard
  • Our food and beverage service resumed when Auckland moved to Alert Level 2 and the rest of New Zealand moved to Alert Level 1, except Koru Hour. We are working closely with our partners and suppliers to bring this back over the coming weeks

Customers are asked to stay home and not to fly if they feel sick or are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.

Our top priority is ensuring that we keep our customers and people safe, so high touch surfaces onboard and in our lounges and airport spaces will continue to be cleaned regularly. Our jet aircraft are fitted with hospital-grade air systems that filter out viruses, and hand sanitiser will continue to be available across the airport, kiosks, service desks and all our aircraft for customers and staff to use as they wish.

Travel to New South Wales and Northern Territory from New Zealand

Following the announcement made by the Australian Government on Friday 2 October, NZ/AU citizens and permanent residents will be able to travel from New Zealand to New South Wales and the Northern Territory from 16 October without the requirement for quarantine on arrival in Australia.

Please ensure customers booking a return journey are aware this is only a one-way arrangement. Those returning to New Zealand will still need to quarantine for 14 days upon return, provide payment for quarantine and register their managed isolation accommodation requirements.

No additional flights are being loaded at this time on the Auckland-Sydney route, however, due to no capacity constraints for travel from 16 October, we have opened up Thursday narrow-body flights as well as three wide-body flights per week on the Auckland-Sydney route providing an additional 12,000 additional seats between now and January. Please refer to your GDS for flight availability.

Customers who wish to make changes to their existing bookings have flexibility as per the Customer Flexibility Guide.

We are awaiting official advice on the process for handling transit passengers. Further updates will be sent in due course.
