Cypriot CEO for Cyprus Airways
George Mavrocostas has been appointed CEO of national airline flag carrier Cyprus Airways, signaling that the company is focusing on supporting a travel recovery for the Cypriot hospitality industry. Mavrocostas is a highly respected and well-known figure in Cypriot air operations and a reference point internationally for the Cypriot carrier, having been until this latest appointment the Chief Operations Officer and Accountable Manager at the airline.
He is a career professional in the airline industry and has been a central figure in airline operations over several decades, built on a strong academic record, first at Imperial College, London, and then at Cranfield Institute of Technology, where he excelled with both a BSc in Aeronautical Engineering followed by an MSc in Aerodynamics.
The new CEO will be at the forefront of a series of planned developments at the national airline brand designed to bring a competitive edge to the airline and to restore its Mediterranean heritage. In his latest role at Cyprus Airways, George Mavrocostas will be working on the sustainability of the airline.
Recently Cyprus Airways was acquired by the SJC Group, a Maltese group with operations across Africa and the Middle-East, incorporating a number of different activities including helicopter commercial flight operations and maintenance from dedicated hangars within Malta International Airport. The SJC Group maintains a fleet of private aircraft to provide emergency services in remote parts of the world. The company is also a leading provider of fire, safety and security services.
A pioneer in the Cypriot travel industry, Cyprus Airways has enjoyed a strong response to its summer schedule launch which is currently supported with a special promotion for flights to all destinations with up to 30% off, and has announced a zero-penalty fee for flight changes on basic fare tickets, as per fare rules. Cyprus Airways has recently announced several new routes, further enhancing the number of direct flights from Larnaca.
Cyprus Airways was awarded for its efforts to enrich local tourism during the last Cyprus Tourism Awards.

We also believe his extensive aeronautics and airline background coupled to his business development skills should help Cyprus Airways to strengthen channel partnerships, develop strategic alliances and expand our international sales presence."
