Call for Mandatory Vax for WA Arrivals from 1 Dec

Tourism Council WA is calling for the introduction of a requirement for all interstate arrivals to Western Australia to be vaccinated from 1 December.

At its meeting last Wednesday, the Tourism Council WA board voted to support mandatory vaccination for all arrivals to the State, which CEO Evan Hall said would promote safe and responsible travel.

"Under this plan, all arrivals into Western Australia - be they returning home from seeing family interstate, FIFO workers, business travellers or tourists - would need to be fully vaccinated," he said.

"This is the responsible way that Western Australians can travel to visit their family and have certainty about returning, for example.

"We would like to see these requirements put in place now to take effect from 1 December so that the industry can ensure it is only taking bookings from vaccinated guests from summer onwards.

"It's a responsible position for the industry to take to ensure Western Australians are as safe as possible as we move towards a new COVID-norm."

Mr Hall said the vaccination requirement would supplement the current controlled border arrangements and it would be expected that other measures like testing and quarantine could still be used as needed.

"This proposal would be the minimum requirement to enter WA at all risk levels in the controlled border arrangement," he said.
