Austrian Airlines Welcomes Termination of Travel Restrictions.

  • Foreign Ministry announced step towards more freedom of travel
  • Restart flight plan can be operated from mid-June, with a few exceptions
  • CCO Andreas Otto: "This decision heralds the return to freedom of travel in the EU"

As of 16 June, Austria's previous entry restrictions for 31 countries within Europe will no longer apply. This was announced yesterday by the Austrian Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Schallenberg. Thus, it is clear that Austrian Airlines' restart flight plan can be carried out as planned, with a few exceptions. Starting next week, Austria's home carrier will take off for 36 destinations within Europe, including Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Paris or Zurich. The first flights to Kyiv, London, Milan and Stockholm will have to be postponed from mid-June to early July due to the extended landing bans. From then on, further destinations will be added, including long-haul flights to Bangkok, Chicago, New York and Washington as well as holiday charters to Greece. These in particular are increasingly in demand by people wanting to travel in view of the summer.

"We welcome the Federal Government's decision", says Austrian Airlines CCO Andreas Otto. "It heralds the return to freedom of travel within the EU. We are increasingly receiving enquiries from the travel agency industry for summer holidays by the sea."

On the Austrian Airlines website, passengers will find up-to-date information on travel in times of corona, flight schedules, mask requirement, entry or rebooking regulations. The information is updated on an ongoing basis.
