Australian Airports Association: Protect Regional Airports Update
Apr-2018 Last week saw the final Parliamentary sitting week before the Budget is announced next month. The AAA took this opportunity to hold a final round of briefing meetings with MPs and Ministers on the importance of ensuring regional airports are provided with much needed funding assistance to maintain and upgrade essential aeronautical infrastructure.
The AAA met with the Hon Rick Wilson MP, the Hon Warren Entsch MP, the Hon Sussan Ley MP, the Hon Keith Pitt MP and the Office of the Hon Julie Bishop MP. These briefings followed the Deputy Prime Minister's recent announcement on the remote airport projects to be funded through the final round of the Remote Airstrip Upgrade Programme. With this fund now exhausted, the AAA reinforced the importance of the ensuring the Federal Government provide increased funding assistance for regional and remote airports as part of the upcoming budget. The AAA will continue to work behind the scenes over the coming weeks in the lead up to the budget to ensure we have done everything possible to try secure assistance for our valuable regional airport members.
