Alitalia reports passenger revenues increase by 1.4 per cent in 2019 1Q

Alitalia's passenger revenues increase continues the growth trend: in the 2019 first quarter, the Italian airline reported a 1.4 per cent increase in passenger revenues, compared to the same period of the previous year. March was the 16th consecutive month of passenger revenues growth.

The result achieved in 2019 is particularly significant because it is compared with the 2018 first quarter that had seen a passenger revenues increase by 6.4 per cent versus the same period of 2017. A figure that had benefited from the Easter period - when the air traffic traditionally raises - which last year occurred precisely in the first quarter.

The revenues growth in 2019 was driven in particular by the excellent performance reported in the intercontinental long-haul sector which increased by 4.3 per cent in 2019 first quarter, compared to the same period of the previous year, also thanks to a 2.8 per cent increase of intercontinental long-haul passengers, compared to 2018 first quarter.

In 2019 first quarter, revenues related to the cargo sector increase by 1.9 per cent compared to the first three months of 2018, while total revenues in 2019 first quarter saw a growth by 2.7 per cent compared to the same period of 2018.
