airberlin significantly increases capacity utilization in the vacation month of July
05-Aug-2016 Despite a capacity reduction of 2.4 percent, airberlin increased its capacity utilization rate for the vacation month of July by 1.6 percentage points to 88.9 percent, thus improving its capacity utilization development over the past months. The accumulated capacity utilization rate increased by 0.2 percentage points to 83.6 percent.
The available seat kilometers (ASK) likewise increased, reaching 5.630 billion, i.e. an increase of 0.9 percent in comparison with the corresponding month of the previous year. Irrespective of the recent terror attacks, the number of passengers travelling on airberlin worldwide only showed a slight decrease, i.e. by 0.8 percent, to 3,220,122 passengers.
As Stefan Pichler, CEO of airberlin, stated: "In the current market environment, this is a positive development. Contrary to the general weakness in the tourism market, we were able to increase our capacity utilization in the first half-year. Now, we have to continue on this positive trend. For that purpose, we are banking on our attractive worldwide flight route network which we are consistently expanding. We have just announced a massive expansion of airberlin's long-haul flights to the United States, which will be on offer starting from the summer of 2017. In this manner, our passengers will have an even larger flight selection available from airberlin's hubs in Düsseldorf and Berlin."
airberlin's passengers traveled a total of 5.003 billion kilometers (RPK) within airberlin's global flight route network, which corresponds to a significant increase of 2.7% in yearly comparison.
