Aeroportos de Portugal: Lisbon Airport Celebrates 75 Years

This increase will be 4.5 million passengers more than in 2016. In the last four years, Lisbon Airport grew 7.2 million passengers, while in the previous eight years the increase was 4.6 million.

The continuous passenger records that have been achieved year after year have resulted in a huge contribution to the city of Lisbon, which also lives the best tourist years ever, at a time when the tourism sector is one of the main pillars of our economic development. In Lisbon this fact is strongly linked to the performance of Lisbon Airport, since 95% of tourists arrive in the Portuguese capital by plane.

In order to leverage the exponential traffic growth that has been registered, ANA Aeroportos de Portugal and VINCI Airports have been investing continuously in improvements in infrastructure, which have allowed to generate efficiencies with the consequent capacity increases.

In a short future, more investments have already been planned, which should be available as early as the IATA summer of 2018. This is the case for the duplication of shipping channels for all Schengen ports in Terminal 1 that do not yet have this facility. But also the creation of two new non-Schengen boarding gates, or the ongoing installation of automatic lines in the security control, which will significantly increase passenger processing and the quality of the service provided. The planned investment also includes the renovation of the check-in area.

These investments anticipate the need for capacity in the different airport systems that will result from the availability of more airspace by the responsible entities.

But it is not only the anniversary and the history of the past and present of the Airport Humberto Delgado that is being celebrated in the ceremony taking place today, November 13, in the terminal of arrivals of the airport and that counts on the presences of the Minister of Planning and Infrastructures, Pedro Marques, the Mayor of Lisbon, Fernando Medina, the CEO of VINCI Concessions and President of VINCI Airports, Nicolas Notebaert and the CEO of ANA Aeroportos de Portugal, Carlos Lacerda.

The future is also in the line. In order to leverage the future of the airport capacity of the Lisbon region, ANA Aeroportos de Portugal and VINCI Airports have once again defended the creation of a new civil airport in Montijo. The proposal of ANA Aeroportos de Portugal and VINCI Airports will now be evaluated.

In his speech, Nicolas Notebaert, CEO of VINCI Concessions and President of VINCI Airports, said that "a new airport in Montijo is the best solution for the country, for the city of Lisbon as well as the metropolitan region of Lisbon and mainly for the south of this area, the best solution for passengers and for airlines", adding that "it is the solution that allows a timely response and minimization of passenger loss in view of the expected growth of air traffic, besides allowing to be concluded earlier, for predicting an existing infrastructure that can be used. It is also the least demanding solution in the need for additional accessibility development. "

Carlos Lacerda, Chief Executive Officer of ANA Aeroportos de Portugal, confirmed that "we have already delivered a proposal to increase Lisbon airport capacity through Humberto Delgado Airport and a new airport in Montijo" and explained that "the next steps involve a work of deepening and detailing the various dimensions of the proposal" adding that "it is only the first step of what we know will be a joint effort between all entities involved, which will continue with total commitment and with the positive attitude we have felt so far in the solution, targeting the objectives of the region and the country. "

Há 75 anos em sintonia com o mundo, o Aeroporto de Lisboa celebra o seu septuagésimo quinto aniversário numa altura em que vai registar o melhor ano de sempre, com a estimativa de mais de 26 milhões de passageiros processados no final de 2017.

Face a 2016, esta subida será superior em 4.5 milhões de passageiros. De registar que nos últimos quatro anos, o Aeroporto de Lisboa cresceu 7,2 milhões de passageiros, enquanto nos oito anos anteriores o incremento registado foi de 4,6 milhões.

Os sucessivos recordes de passageiros que têm vindo a ser alcançados ano após ano têm resultado num contributo inestimável para a cidade de Lisboa, que vive igualmente os melhores anos turísticos de sempre, numa altura em que o setor do turismo é um dos principais pilares da nossa economia e do desenvolvimento do país. Em Lisboa esse facto fica fortemente ligado ao desempenho do Aeroporto de Lisboa, uma vez que 95% dos turistas chegam à capital portuguesa por avião.

Para alavancar o crescimento exponencial de tráfego que se tem registado a ANA Aeroportos de Portugal e a VINCI Airports têm vindo a investir continuamente em melhorias na infraestrutura, que permitiram gerar eficiências com os consequentes aumentos de capacidade.

Para o futuro próximo estão já projetados mais investimentos, que deverão estar disponíveis já no Verão IATA 2018. É o caso da duplicação de canais de embarque de todas as portas Schengen do Terminal 1 que ainda não possuem esta facilidade. Mas também da criação de duas novas portas de embarque Não Schengen, ou da instalação em curso de linhas automáticas no controlo de segurança, que permitirão aumentar significativamente o processamento de passageiros e a qualidade do serviço prestado. Dos investimentos previstos faz igualmente parte a renovação da zona de check-in.

Estes investimentos antecipam a necessidade de capacidade nos diferentes sistemas do aeroporto que decorrerá da disponibilização de mais espaço aéreo por parte das entidades responsáveis.

Mas não é só o aniversário e a história do passado e presente do Aeroporto Humberto Delgado que se celebra na cerimónia que se realiza hoje, dia 13 de novembro, no terminal de chegadas do aeroporto e que conta com as presenças do Ministro do Planeamento e Infraestruturas, Pedro Marques, do Presidente da Câmara Municipal de Lisboa, Fernando Medina, do CEO da VINCI Concessions e Presidente da VINCI Airports, Nicolas Notebaert e do CEO da ANA Aeroportos de Portugal, Carlos Lacerda.

Falou-se do futuro também. É que, para não comprometer e para alavancar o futuro da capacidade aeroportuária da região de Lisboa, a ANA Aeroportos de Portugal e a VINCI Airports voltam a defender a criação no Montijo de um novo aeroporto civil. A proposta da ANA Aeroportos de Portugal e VINCI Airports será agora avaliada.

No seu discurso, Nicolas Notebaert, CEO da VINCI Concessions e Presidente da VINCI Airports, adiantou que "um novo aeroporto no Montijo é a melhor solução para o país, para Lisboa, bem como para a região metropolitana de Lisboa, principalmente para o Sul desta área, e é a melhor solução para os passageiros e para as companhias aéreas", referindo ainda "é a solução que permite uma resposta atempada e minimização da perda de passageiros face à expectativa de crescimento de trafego aéreo, além de permitir estar concluído mais cedo, por prever uma infraestrutura existe que pode ser usada. É também a solução menos exigente na necessidade de desenvolvimento adicional de acessibilidades."

Carlos Lacerda, Presidente da Comissão Executiva da ANA Aeroportos de Portugal, confirmou que "já entregámos uma proposta para o aumento da capacidade aeroportuária de Lisboa, através do Aeroporto Humberto Delgado e de um novo aeroporto no Montijo" e esclareceu que "os próximos passos envolvem um trabalho de aprofundamento e detalhe das várias dimensões da proposta", acrescentando ainda que "é só o primeiro passo do que sabemos que será um trabalho conjunto entre todas as entidades envolvidas, que continuará a correr com total empenho e com a atitude positiva que temos sentido até agora na solução, com vista aos objetivos da região e do país."
