About

Xiamen Xiangan Airport is a planned international airport development project to be constructed on Dadeng Island, Xiangan District, city of Xiamen. The proposed airport is to feature two 3600m runways in the first phase of construction, with the second phase adding a further two runways. Rail connections will also be built simultaneously in order to link the city with the airport. The first phase of Xiamen Xiangan Airport is designed to be capable of handling 45 million passengers by 2025, with annual passenger throughput planned to reach 75 million in 2040, after completion of the second phase construction. The airport project is scheduled to complete construction by 2025 and commence operation in 2025.


Jan-2023. HAECO Xiamen launchedconstruction of its new aircraft maintenance facility at Xiamen Xiangan Airport on 08-Jan-2023. The facility will cover 537,300sqm, including a 292,300sqm construction area and a 284,000sqm apron area. The project will involve the construction of 18 buildings for engineering, engine testing, fuel supply and utilities. The facility will feature 12 maintenance bays for widebody aircraft, six bays for narrowbody aircraft and two separate painting bays. The facility's 'centre-axle' design will connect the hangars and ancillary buildings, facilitating logistics and resource sharing. The new facility will feature solar power, building management systems, lighting controls, water storage, air conditioning systems and wastewater and air treatment, with the goal of achieving LEED-NC gold certification.

Jan-2022. Xiamen Xiangan Airport commenced development works. The airport project will require an estimated investment of CNY62 billion (USD9.8 billion) and is expected to be completed by 2025. Xiamen Xiangan Airport will be equipped with one 3800m runway, one 3600m runway, a 550,000sqm passenger terminal and 196 aircraft parking stands. It will have capacity to handle up to 45 million passengers, 380,000 aircraft movements and 750,000 tons of cargo p/a.

Apr-2021. China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) approved the feasibility survey report for the Xiamen Xiangan Airport development project. The airport project will require an estimated investment of CNY38.6 billion (USD6 billion) and is expected to be completed by 2025. Xiamen Xiangan Airport will be equipped with one 3800m runway, one 3600m runway and a 550,000sqm passenger terminal.

Oct-2019. Xiamen International Airport Group (Iport Group) stated New Xiamen Airport (Xiamen Xiangan Airport) master plan recently received approval from CAAC.

Jun-2019. Xiamen City Development and Reform Commission received approval to proceed with plans to develop Xiamen Xiangan Airport. Reclamation works for the airport development project are underway. The airport will have an initial handling capacity of up to 45 million passengers p/a and is expected to be equipped with two 3800m runways by 2030. Nearby Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport will continue to operation following the commissioning of the new airport.

Aug-2017. CAAC East China Air Traffic Management Bureau issued an ATC feasibility study tender for Xiamen Xiangan Airport.

Aug-2016. 

29-Aug-2016. Xiamen Xiangan Airport partial construction transportation corridors recently passed acceptance, providing a solid guarantee to commence airport construction at the end of Oct-2016. The airport plans to complete main construction in 2018 and commence operation in 2020.

15-Aug-2016. Xiamen Xiangan Airport plans to commence terminal area construction project investigation and exploration work in Sep-2016. The terminal construction project, with total investment of CNY13.7 billion (USD2.1 billion), includes the terminal building, transportation centres, parking building and airport overnight passenger area.

05-Aug-2016. Xiamen Xiangan Airport plans to commence terminal construction in Oct-2016, with plans to complete main construction in 2018 and commence operation in 2020. The airport sets 2025 and 2045 as its short-term and long-term target year:

  • 2025:
    • Two parallel runways;
    • 550,000sqm terminal area;
    • Capacity to handle 45.0 million passengers and 750,000 tonnes of cargo;
  • 2045:
    • Four runways;
    • 900,000sqm terminal area;
    • Capacity to handle 70.0 million passengers and 1.6 million tonnes of cargo.

Apr-2016. Xiamen Xiangan Airport preparatory work is now underway according to Xiamen Municipal Government. Construction work on the new airport is expected to be completed in 2018 and the airport to commence operation in 2020.

Aug-2015

26-Aug-2015. China Architecture Design Group and the CPG Corporation have submitted the winning bid for Xiang'an International Airport, Xiamen's new airport on Dadeng Island. The terminal building consists of one main building and six radial-style airside corridors. The airport is scheduled to commence construction at the end of 2016 and be operational in 2020. The project will be conducted in two phases, covering a total of 46sqkm in Xiang'an District. In the first phase, the core area of the new airport will be constructed on a 9sqkm area on Dadeng Island including two runways and a 0.54 million m2 terminal building that can accommodate up to 45 million passengers p/a. The airport will eventually include four runways with capacity expected to increase to 75 million annual passengers.

Aug-2015. Xiamen Xiangan Airport plans to strive to complete its construction project approval in Oct-2015. The airport is still scheduled to commence operation in 2020.

Jan-2015. The Fujian Provincial Development and Reform Commission stated it hopes to commence construction of Xiamen Xiangan Airport in construction in 2015.

Jul-2014. Kinmen County Magistrate Li Wo-shi said the county is interested in taking part in both the construction and operation of the new airport project. Mr Li said the county’s involvement could solve Kinmen Airport’s capacity issue as the airport is expected to reach its 3.9 million passengers p/a capacity in five years; a problem because the airport cannot be expanded further. A proposal will be submitted to Taiwan’s Ministry of Transportation and Communications, according to Mr Li. The cities have agreed to hire a consulting firm to carry out a feasibility study on the Kinmen-Xiamen JV.

Jun-2014. Construction work is expected to commence in 2016 and the airport to commence operation in 2020.

May-2014. CAAC director general Li Jiaxiang met with airport management, in preparation for the commencement of construction work on the airport. The new airport will consist of two parallel runways with the main runway measuring 3800m, with capacity to operate A380 and B747 equipment, and a 580,000sqm terminal building. The airport will have capacity to handle 48 million passengers and 1.3 million tonnes of cargo p/a. In the long-term, the airport aims to have four runways, with terminal area of 930,000sqm and to meet annual capacity of 78 million passengers and 2.2 million tonnes of cargo.
