Jul-2023. Nigeria's Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace announced Wachakal Airport at Nguru in Yobe State is 85% complete. A test flight was recently conducted and the airstrip is expected to install Doppler very high frequency omni directional range equipment in the next three months. The Wachakal Airport project commenced approximately one year ago. Karasuwa Local Government vice chairman Hassan Daliru said the project "will be completed soon". Ministry director of aerodrome development Clement Olayinka Awogbami stated: "This type of project is designed for the purpose of security; it will enhance security surveillance, it will also aid VIP movement, assist in medical evacuation in case of emergency and also for agricultural purposes".
Aug-2021. Nigeria's Minister of Aviation Hadi Sirika stated the Federal Executive Council approved the construction of Wachakal Airport near Nguru in Yobe State, including a NGN6.28 billion (USD15.25 million) construction contract and NGN219.78 million (USD533,576) for post-construction consultancy services for the Aviation Ministry.
