About

Veliky Novgorod Krechevitsy Airport (Krechevitsa Airport) is a proposed new airport construction project that calls for the conversion of a former Russian military air base located approximately 10 kilometres east of Veliky Novgorod, into a commercial airport. The regional government plans to develop an international transport-logistics centre at the site, with the project to include cargo terminals and a hotel. The government is currently seeking investors for the project. 


Aug-2025. Russia's Novgorod Oblast Acting Governor Aleksandr Dronov announced plans to open Veliky Novgorod Krechevitsy Airport for operations. Veliky Novgorod Krechevitsy Airport's airfield was transferred into federal ownership in May-2025. Federal Air Transport Agency signed a contract to revise the airport's reconstruction project on 17-Aug-2025. Capital repair work is scheduled to commence in mid 2026, with the airport to commence operations in 2028.

Sep-2019. Novgorod Oblast Governor Andrey Nikitin said the construction of Veliky Novgorod Krechevitsy Airport is scheduled to commence in 2022. The project is expected to receive RUB7.8 billion (EUR107 million/USD118 million) in federal funding.

Mar-2019. Novgorod Oblast Governor Andrey Nikitin said Veliky Novgorod Airport will be constructed by 2024. Mr Nikitin the project is at the planning stage, with site preparation work to commence in 2022.

Oct-2018. Novgorod Oblast Governor Andrey Nikitin said RUB7.5 billion (EUR100 million/USD114 million) in federal funds could be provided for the development of Veliky Novgorod Krechevitsy Airport.

Oct-2017. Nizhny Novgorod Oblast plans to take steps towards the construction of an airport in Veliky Novgorod, according to Nizhny Novgorod Governor Andrey Nikitin.
