About

Çukurova Airport is an airport project which will serve the Turkish provinces of Mersin and Adana. The construction of the airport, which will have domestic and international terminals, is expected to take approximately 24 months and 4500 workers will be hired to construct the airport. Construction commenced on 26-Mar-2017.


Sep-2023. Türkiye's Tarsus Municipality Chamber of Commerce, via its official Facebook account, announced Cukurova Airport will commence operations in Jan-2024. The airport will feature a 115,000sqm terminal, 48 aircraft parking positions and eight aerobridges.

May-2023. Türkiye's Government conducted the first test flights at Çukurova Airport. Treasury and Finance Minister Nureddin Nebati said the airport is expected to commence operations in Jun-2023, with capacity to handle 12 million passengers p/a.

Aug-2022. Türkiye's Kozuva Group chairman Süleyman Kozuva said construction of Çukurova Airport has reached 75% completion, with the project expected to be completed by the end of 2022. The airport is expected to handle 12 million passengers p/a, and will include an apron capable of accommodating 50 aircraft and a VIP terminal.

Sep-2018. DHMI chair and DG Funda Ocak reported Cukurova Airport infrastructure works reached 40% completion. The new airport project involves construction of a 3500m x 60m runway, 3500m x 45m parallel taxiway, 240,000sqm apron with capacity of 40 aircraft, terminal with capacity of 10 million p/a, 120,000sqm passenger parking facility, 11 passenger boarding bridges, fire and rescue station and associated support facilities, DHMI stated. 

May-2018. DHMI said "as of yesterday (03-May-2018), we signed a contract for the delivery of... Cukurova Airport". DHMI aims for the airport to become operational in 2019. Bids opened for the Cukurova Airport project in early 2018.

Feb-2018. Türkiye's Minister for Development Lütfi Elvan reported infrastructure works for Çukurova Airport are expected to be completed in Jun-2018, with the airport aiming to open services in 2019.

Oct-2017. Türkiye's General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI) DG and chair Funda Ocak confirmed Çukurova Airport works are on track. Works to construct the main runway have commenced, according to Ms Ocak. 

Mar-2017. Türkiye's General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI) commenced construction of Cukurova Airport. DHMI stated the airport is planned for opening in by the end of 2018, though if construction works are quicker than expected the facility could open as early as 29-Oct-2018.

May-2016. Türkiye received bids from interested concessionaires for the construction tender of Cukurova Airport.

Oct-2015. Çukurova Regional Airport said the contract process for the airport, which will be constructed using a build-operate-transfer model, is scheduled to be held on 15-Jan-2016.

Dec-2014. Koçoğlu Construction, which was awarded a tender to construct Çukurova Airport , is now in talks with other companies to form a partnership agreement for the project due to financial problems. The groundbreaking ceremony for the Çukurova Airport was held in May-2013. The facility was expected to be the second largest in Türkiye, after the planned third airport of Istanbul.

Oct-2014. Mersin Industrialists and Businessmen Union (MESİAD) president Mehmet Avcılar said there has been no progress in the construction of Çukurova Regional Airport since Jul-2014, with the contractor facing difficulties securing the bank loans required to go ahead with the investment. Constructed under a build- operate-transfer scheme, Çukurova was expected to have an initial capacity to serve 15 million domestic and international passengers p/a and be operational at the end of 2015. Construction commenced in May-2013 with a EUR357 million investment. Mr Avcılar said: “We have been in contact with officials from the company [Skyline] for weeks, and they have cited loan problems for the suspension of the airport… We have learned that the firm has invested 60 million euros in the project so far".

May-2013. Construction began. The airport is designed to handle 30 million passengers p/a. In Dec-2011 a joint venture between Sky Line Havacılık and Zonguldak Özel Sivil Havacılık won a build-operate-transfer (BOT) tender for Çukurova Airport with a EUR357 million bid.
