About

Telangana Adilabad Airport is a proposed new airport construction project for the city of Adilabad, in northern Telangana state, India. Telangana's Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao announced the proposal in Jul-2015. The new facility is expected to improve connectivity and support the development of Adilabad district.


Apr-2021. Telangana's Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao requested India's Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) accelerate the approvals process for the development of six new airports in Telangana, including Telangana Adilabad Airport.

Mar-2020. Telangana's Minister for Information Technology and Industries K T Rama Rao reported the state government is pursuing plans to develop six new airports, including Telangana Adilabad Airport.

Nov-2019. Airports Authority of India (AAI) undertook a survey of Adilabad Aerodrome on 21-Aug-2019, to determine the feasibility of developing the aerodrome into Telangana Adilabad Airport. The AAI aims to submit feasibility report on the proposed airport project within the next month and a detailed project report to Telangana's Government within six months.

Nov-2018. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah reported the BJP is committed to the Telangana Adilabad Airport development project. Mr Shah said the project will require an estimated investment of INR3 billion (USD42.8 million).

Aug-2016. India’s Information Technology Minister K Tarakarama Rao advised an Airports Authority of India (AAI) pre-feasibility study taken for an airport development in Adilabad indicated the project will require 347 acres and 554 acres of land in two phases. In addition, the Indian Air Force have “sought NOC from the State Government to set up a full-fledged Air Force station in Adilabad which will also be used for civil aircraft and commercial usage” according to the Minister.

Feb-2016. Telangana State Government finalised proposals to establish new airports in the state. The proposal were pending over the past 18 months due to uncertainty over their locations and land acquisition. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has now approved land acquisition for an airport project at Adilabad.
