The New Phnom Penh Airport also known as Techo Takhmao International Airport is a proposed development to serve the city of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The proposed airport will be located 30-40km outside of the city and will replace the existing Phnom Penh Airport. Techo Takhmao International Airport is expected to be operational by 2025.
Sep-2024.
26-Sep-2024. International Airport Advertising Corporation (IAAC) secured a ten year contract to manage interior and outdoor media spaces at Techo Takhmao International Airport.
09-Sep-2024. Cambodia's State Secretariat for Civil Aviation (SSCA) spokesman Sin Chansereyvutha said Techo Takhmao International Airport launched engineering flight inspections. The inspections will assess the airport's readiness to accommodate commercial air traffic. Mr Sin said: "Key areas of the inspections include runway integrity, navigational aids and communications involving technical tools installed at the airport. The tools will be checked for safety standards".
Jun-2024. Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation chairman Pung Kheav Se stated construction of the USD1.5 billion first phase of Techo Takhmao International Airport has entered the final stage and is 78% complete as of 16-Jun-2024. The airport is expected to commence operations by Feb-2025. The remaining investment of USD300 million will be spent on mechanical, electrical and plumbing works at the new airport.

17-Jan-2024. Overseas Cambodia Investment Corporation selected a consortium led by Lagardère Travel Retail and HSC Group as the preferred bidder to manage duty free services at New Phnom Penh Airport.
03-Jan-2024. Foster + Partners provided the following construction update for New Phnom Penh Airport:
- The airport's terminal building comprises a central head house with two aerofoil shaped piers designed to optimise walking distances. The head house contains all passenger processing, security and immigration and retail elements under a single roof canopy that stretches from the drop-off to the airside;
- The airport's roof is supported by structural trees spanning 36m and includes a screen that filters daylight;
- The terminal will be almost entirely run on energy generated from an onsite photovoltaic farm.
The first phase of the airport terminal includes the central head house and the aerofoil wings to the north. Subsequent phases will include the second aerofoil wing.
May-2023. SIA Engineering Company (SIAEC) and Cambodia Airport Investment Company (CAIC) signed an agreement to form a line maintenance JV in Cambodia. SIAEC will hold a 51% equity stake in the JV and CAIC will have a 49% holding. The JV will establish line maintenance services at New Phnom Penh Airport from Mar-2025 in line with the airport's opening. It will complement SIAEC's existing network of international line maintenance stations and is expected to develop into a regional aircraft MRO hub at New Phnom Penh Airport.
Nov-2022. Cambodia's State Secretariat of Civil Aviation spokesman Sinn Chanserey Vutha stated construction of New Phnom Penh Airport has passed the 43% completion mark, with its first phase due to be completed in mid 2024.
Oct-2022. Cambodia Airport Investment Company (CAIC) director Yee Con Long reported construction of New Phnom Penh Airport's terminal is 40% complete and is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
Jun-2022. Cambodia's State Secretary of Civil Aviation Mao Havannall reported construction of New Phnom Penh Airport is more than 33% complete. Mr Havannall stated the USD1.5 billion airport is due for completion in 2024 and is scheduled to commence operations by early 2025.
Jan-2020. Cambodia's State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA) senior deputy director Sinn Chanserey Vutha reported three undisclosed companies from China have been shortlisted to construct a new USD1.5 billion airport for Phnom Penh in Kandal Stueng District. The airport is a JV between local real estate conglomerate Overseas Cambodia Investment Corporation (OCIC) and the SSCA. It will cover an area of 2600 hectares, making it one of the world's largest airports by land area.
Feb-2019. Cambodia's Government established a special commission to supervise the development of the planned USD1.5 billion New Phnom Penh Airport. The commission will include representatives from the Council for the Development of Cambodia, the Council of Ministers, and several ministries including the interior, economy and finance, industry, water resources, and public works.
Jan-2018. Cambodia Airport Investment Company plans to construct a new USD1.5 billion airport for Phnom Penh in Kandal Stueng District. State Secretariat of Civil Aviation spokesperson Sin Chansereyvutha commented: "As far I know, the location being considered for the new airport is somewhere in southern Phnom Penh. It will be comparable in size to the new airport in Siem Reap". The company is a joint venture between Overseas Cambodia Investment Corporation (OCIC) and the Cambodian Government's State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, with OCIC to control 90% of the new airport.
Jun-2016. Phnom Penh International Airport’s proposed domestic terminal development project will be suspended due to community opposition, announced director of the economic, social and cultural council Yem Nolla, revealing plans for a new airport development instead in the outskirts of the city. State Secretariat of Civil Aviation sporkesperson Sinn Sereyvuth stated the government hopes “the new airport can create better economic opportunities” in the long run as compared to expanding Phnom Penh Airport. The proposed airport will be located 30-40km outside of the city and is expected to be operational by 2025.
