Sukabumi Airport is a planned new airport construction project to be located in either Citarete village or Warung Kiara, Sukabumi, West Java. The airport site is situated southwest of Sukabumi city. The local provincial government plans to construct the new airport as part of its 2025 long-term development plan (RPJP) and is being built to bolster the region's tourism and freight industries. Construction works were scheduled to commence in 2015, with the project expected to cost Rp1.5 trillion (USD119 million). However, the Ministry of Transport confirmed the proposed new airport in Sukabumi were scheduled to commence construction in 2019.
Jul-2019. Swire Group expressed interest in developing Sukabumi Airport. The Sukabumi project is still in the land acquisition phase.
Nov-2018. Sukabumi Regent Marwan Hamami stated the Indonesian Government plans to construct Sukabumi Airport in the two subdistricts of Cikembar and Warungkiara because the 1600m runway has been extended to 2500m and will require additional land. Construction is expected to commence in early 2019.
Aug-2018. Indonesia's Ministry of Transportation plans to commence construction of Sukabumi Airport in 2018 to accelerate economic and tourism development in southern West Java. Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said the land acquisition phase has commenced and the airport will feature a 1600m to 2000m runway.
Jul-2018. Indonesia's Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi reaffirmed a target to complete Sukabumi Airport by the end 2020. Mr Sumadi added the airport will boost Sukabumi's position as a centre for tourism in West Java.
May-2018. Indonesia's Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi stated Sukabumi Airport's construction is planned for completion by end 2020. Mr Sumadi said land for the project is in the process of being acquired by the Government. The facility will operate a 1600m runway and focus on attracting turboprop operations.
Nov-2017. Indonesia's Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi stated three firm locations are being considered for construction of Sukabumi Airport, comprising the Kecamatan Surade, Cikidang and Warungkiara districts. The facility is scheduled to commence operation by the end of 2020.
Sep-2017. Indonesia Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi confirmed the proposed new airport in Sukabumi is scheduled to commence construction in 2019, with land acquisition to complete by 2018. Mr Sumadi admit the exact location have yet to be determined, the government is considering between two sites in Citarate or Warungkiara district.
Jan-2015. Sukabumi Provincial Government secretary Sardjono Adjo stated construction is scheduled to begin in 2015.
