Seri Iskandar Airport is an airport that serves the city of Seri Iskandar, Perak State, Malaysia.
Oct-2023. Perak's Menteri Besar Saarani Mohamad stated government is awaiting approval from the Ministry of Transport (MoT) and Ministry of Finance (MoF) regarding a proposal to construct Seri Iskandar (Perak) Airport. Mr Saarani said the proposal "requires the proper attention and consideration for the country's future aviation landscape". He added: "We have 'sold' the idea to the federal (government). Although we have land, it still depends on the decisions of the MoT and MoF".
Aug-2023. Perak's State Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Public Transport Committee chairman Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin stated government has identified a new site for the construction of Seri Iskandar (Perak) Airport. Mr Mohammad said the new site is 40km from the original proposed site in Seri Iskandar, adding government met with UK based Colebrand International Limited regarding the site. The previous site contained village owned sites and cemeteries which led to objections from local residents. Proposed construction of the airport has received in-principle approval from federal government. State government is undertaking a study of the airport which is expected to take six months. It will look at location suitability as to whether it meets international airport standard requirements. Mr Mohammad added: "Based on our expectations and experience, the construction is expected to take some 60 months or five years".
Apr-2022. Perak's Menteri Besar Saarani bin Mohamad said land allocated for the development of an international airport at Seri Iskandar was sold to a private company. Mr Saarani said: "It cannot be taken back as the private company has already obtained planning permission to carry out mixed development in the area".
Mar-2022. Perak's State Leader of the Opposition Abdul Aziz Bari stated the status of Seri Iskandar (Perak) Airport must be clarified by state government. Mr Abdul said: "It is crucial for the state to have a bigger runway that can accommodate bigger aircraft. This is not only for passenger aircraft, but we need an airport that can cater to big flights and cargo that will provide a more efficient, faster connection and seamless travel to destinations". He added: "While it is learnt that the proposed land has been sold, the state government can re plan the idea for the future of our state. In order for Perak to be a growth centre, we need to get better connectivity in terms of our port, and roads".
Feb-2019. Perak State's Menteri Besar (Chief Minister) Ahmad Faizal Azumu said the government is progressing plans to construct a new international airport to boost tourism in Perak. Mr Azumu said: "We are preparing the paperwork and will send it to the federal government for consideration and approval".

Aug-2018. Malaysia's Ministry of Transport advised Perak's state government to produce a more detailed submission for Seri Iskandar (Perak) Airport if the state government wishes to proceed with the project.
Nov-2017. Malaysia's Ministry of Transport accepted a proposal from the Perak State Government to build a new airport in central Perak. The proposed airport will include a free trade zone, logistics hub, integrated cargo terminal, and an education and housing development zone.
Sep-2017. Perak's Government plans to invest MYR1.5 billion (USD357 million) in the proposed new airport in Seri Iskandar to resolve congestion at Ipoh Sultan Azlan Shah Airport. The new airport will be equipped with a bigger runway capable of handling widebodies and will include a MRO centre and training facilities. The government is seeking approval from the National Economic Council to proceed with development plans.
Jul-2017. Malaysia Perak state government proposed a new airport to facilitate tourism growth and enhance local economy via the MRO industry. The state is currently served by Ipoh Sultan Azlan Shah Airport, which reportedly face land constraint for further expansion. The proposed airport is expected to feature a 2500m runway capable of handling widebodies. Mr Kadir will officially announce the project once it is finalised.
