Saqqez Airport (also referred to as Saghez Airport) is a proposed airport to serve the city of Saqqez, Kurdistan Province.
Jul-2021. Iran's Government commemorated the opening of Saqqez Airport in Kurdistan province on 21-Jul-2021. The airport features a 2300sqm terminal and a 2800m runway. Kurdistan Airports director general Amir Abbas Nazarizadeh stated airport construction was delayed due to a lack of funding, however the situation subsequently normalised.
Nov-2020. Iran Airports and Air Navigation Company head Siavash Amir Mokri stated Saqqez Airport will be commissioned by 21-Dec-2021. Construction of the apron is expected to be complete by 21-Jun-2021.
Sep-2019. Iran Airports & Air Navigation Company reported Saqqez Airport is scheduled to open in summer 2020. Construction of terminal buildings and adjacent structures has reached 60% completion.
Aug-2019. Iran Airports & Air Navigation Company reported Saqqez Airport's terminal and ancillary building construction is 55% complete and would open in 2020.
Apr-2019. Sanandaj Airport manager Mohsen Seifzadeh reported the terminal project and construction of Saqez Airport were 45% completed.

30-Aug-2017. Iran Airports and Air Navigation Company announced completion of certain infrastructure works at Saqez Airport in Aug-2017, a development that is expected to address the needs of Iran's western region. A tender for the completion of the airport's runway and terminal is scheduled to be concluded by the end of Sep-2017.
02-Aug-2017. Iran Airports and Air Navigation Company stated the construction of Saqqez Airport has entered the bidding phase, with plans to complete the airport as soon as possible. The airport will feature a 2500m runway, and will be capable of handling ATR 72 aircraft.
