About

Raichur Airport is a proposed new airport development, recently approved by the Karnataka State Government. The new airport will be designed as a low-cost facility, serving the city of Raichur. It is part of an infrastructure strategy proposed by the Karnataka State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (KSIIDC), which aims to construct five new low-cost airports in Karnataka. The new airport will feature a small passenger terminal, as well as a runway approximately 1000m to 2000m in length.


Mar-2022. Karnataka's Cabinet approved the detailed project report (DPR) submitted by RITES India for the Raichur Airport development project. The project will require an estimated investment of INR1.9 billion (USD25.1 million).

Jul-2017. Karnataka Industries Minister R V Deshpande urged the Indian Government to further promote regional air connectivity in the state (Daijiworld, 06-Jul-2017). He also noted that Turbo Airlines and Air Odisha are expanding operations in the state under the regional connectivity scheme, providing service to Mysuru, Vidyanagar (Ballari) and Bengaluru. Airlines have submitted bids for service from Bengaluru, Bengaluru HAL, Bidar, Hubballi, Mysuru and Vidyanagar (Ballari district) to unserved or under-served airports. The locations proposed for the RCS in Karnataka are: Chikkamagaluru, Kushalanaghar, Karwar, Harihar, Ammasandra, Koppal, Bengaluru, Ballari, Bidar, Ginigera (Hospete), Hassan, Jakkur, Kolar, Mysuru (Mandakalli), Raichur, Shahabad, Vidyanagar (Vijayapura), Yadgir and Yelanhanka.

Apr-2017. India’s Government has identified 19 airports in Karnataka State which could be including in the UDAN regional connectivity scheme. Under the UDAN scheme, airfares will be capped at INR2500 (USD38) per hour. Locations include: Chikkamagaluru; Kushalnagar; Karwar; Harihar; Ammasandra; Koppal; Bengaluru; Ballari; Bidar; Ginigera; Hassan; Jakkur; Kolar; Mysuru; Raichur; Shahbad; Vidyanagar; Yadgir; Yelahanka.

Oct-2015. Karnataka State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (KSIIDC) received approval from Karnataka's Government to develop new low-cost airports at Chikkamagaluru, Karwar, Kushalanagar, Raichur and Vijayapura. The airports will feature small terminal buildings and runways of 1000m to 2000m and will be operated and maintained by private companies. Each airport is expected to cost INR120 million (USD1.8 million) to INR150 million (USD2.3 million), depending on runway length.
