About

Quang Tri Airport (also known as Dong Ha International Airport) is a proposed airport development in Quang Tri Province, approximately 7km from Dong Ha City. The project has a total investment of VND5.8 trillion (USD228 million) including VND310 billion (USD13.7 million) from the state budget and will be split into two phases. The first will develop the airport into a 4C rating to serve approximately 2.2 million passengers p/a by 2046 and 5600 tonnes of cargo by 2042. The second will raise capacity to five million passengers p/a by 2047 and 25,500 tonnes of cargo p/a by 2059.


Jul-2024. Vietnam's Prime Minister approved a VND5.8 trillion (USD228 million) project to build Quang Tri Airport under a public-private partnership model. Construction of the airport will commence on 06-Jul-2024 under T&T Transport Infrastructure Development and Investment Company Limited - CIENCO 4 Group Joint Stock Company. The project will cover an area of 265 hectares and is expected to be completed and operational by Jul-2026. The airport will meet the Class 4C standards and will accommodate around five million passengers and 25,500 tonnes of cargo p/a.

Apr-2024. Quang Tri People's Committee signed a build-operate-transfer agreement with T&T Transport Infrastructure Development and Investment Company Limited - CIENCO 4 Group Joint Stock Company and Quang Tri Airport Limited to implement Dong Ha International Airport. Quang Tri province aims to commence construction of the airport in Jun-2024 and put the project into operation in 2026. Gio Linh district has completed planning landmarks and an environmental impact assessment. The district also conducted an inventory of architectural assets, determined specific land prices and completed documents to submit for appraisal of resettlement areas and cemeteries. Quang Tri province directed the district to speed up progress and hand over 136.2ha of land to investors before 31-May-2024 and complete 100% of the land before Dec-2024. If compensation and site clearance for 265ha of newly allocated or leased land is delayed, progress of the airport's construction is also expected to be delayed.

Dec-2023. Quang Tri People's Committee confirmed the winning investor for Dong Ha International Airport's Project Component 2 - Airport Construction is a joint venture of T&T Transport Infrastructure Development and Investment Company Limited and CIENCO4 Group Joint Stock Company.

Aug-2023. Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam announced a feasibility study for construction of Dong Ha International Airport (Quang Tri Airport) has been approved. People's Committee of Quang Tri province will organise bidding to select a project investor, which is expected to occur during 3Q2023. Construction of an airfield is due to be completed before 2026 including a 2400m x 45m runway. Two turning fields will also be built at the two ends of the runway with dimensions of 100m x 20m x 65m and a 100m x 45m stop segment at each end. A 244m x 15m taxiway connecting the runway to the apron will also be constructed, as well as a water drainage system, public service roads and security fences. 

Jan-2023. Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee vice chairman Le Duc Tien stated once a feasibility study report is approved for the construction, the committee will organise bidding to select the project investor. Mr Le said the committee is aiming to commence the project in 2Q2023. The airport, being built under a public private partnership, has a total investment of VND5.8 trillion (USD256.2 million) including VND310 billion (USD13.7 million) from the state budget. It will be split into two phases, with the first developing the airport into a 4C rating to serve approximately 2.2 million passengers p/a by 2046 and 5600 tonnes of cargo by 2042. The second will raise capacity to five million passengers p/a by 2047 and 25,500 tonnes of cargo p/a by 2059.

Sep-2022. Dong Ha International Airport (Quang Tri Airport) which will commence selecting investors to start construction at the end of 2022 and early 2023.

Nov-2021. Vietnam's Quang Tri Province is seeking government approval to develop Dong Ha International Airport (Quang Tri Airport) under a public private partnership. 

Jul-2019. Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Transport to develop an airport in Quang Tri Province.

Jun-2018. Quang Tri People's Committee requested permission from Vietnam's Ministry of Transport to conduct a feasibility study to construct a new airport.

Mar-2016. Quang Tri Province requested the transport ministry to approve a plan to construct a domestic airport. According to the plan submitted in 2012, the 311ha airport will cost VND374 billion (USD16.55 million).

Feb-2009. Vietnam’s Quang Tri Provincial People’s Committee approved a plan to construct an additional international terminal at Quang Tri Airport.
