Penajam Airport is a proposed new airport to serve the city of Penajam, Kalimantan. The Ministry of Transportation plans to establish the airport as a general aviation facility, handling presidential flights and private jets.
Feb-2022. Indonesia's Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi inspected the location of a prospective new airport in East Kalimantan. Mr Sumadi stated he conducted research and studies to determine the airport's strategic location, which will be between the State Capital area and Balikpapan. He added the airport will have a runway of 3000m x 45m and will accommodate large aircraft including the Boeing 777. It is due to be completed in 2024.
Sep-2019. Indonesia's Ministry of Transportation plans to develop a new airport in Penajam, East Kalimantan, to handle presidential flights and private jets. Construction costs were not specified.
