About
New Tioman Airport is a proposed airport to serve Pulau Tioman. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail stated the Malaysian Cabinet had approved plans for a new airport on the island in Nov-2019.
Aug-2022. Malaysia's Minister of Transport (MoT) Wee Ka Siong stated the proposed construction of New Tioman Airport is subject to the findings of a National Airport Strategic Plan (NASP) study which commenced in Mar-2021. The study, which will take 18 months to complete, involves 42 existing airports and proposed new ones.
Nov-2019. Malaysia's Ministry of Transport stated no decision has been made regarding the construction of a new airport on Tioman Island.
Oct-2019. Malaysia's Pulau Tioman villagers called on the government to suspend development of Tioman Airport due to environmental concerns
Jun-2018. Berjaya Group group executive chairman Vincent Tan announced the company intends to submit plans to the Malaysian Government to develop a new airport on Pulau Tioman island. The airport is expected to require MYR1.2 billion (USD301 million).
Oct-2017. Pahang's Tourism and Culture Committee chairman Mohd Sharkar Shamsuddin said a study is being undertaken on construction of a new airport serving Pulau Tioman and he is hopeful the project may be complete by the end of 2019.
