New Rajkot International Airport is a proposed development to serve the Rajkot district. The new airport secured site clearance and in-principal approval in May-2017, with plans for AAI to develop the airport on a build, operate and maintenance basis. Gujarat Government allocated 1025ha of land in Hirasar for the project.
Jul-2019. Airports Authority of India issued an INR5.5 billion (USD80.2 million) construction tender for the development of runway, taxiway, apron and associated facilities at New Rajkot International Airport. The deadline for the tender is 02-Sep-2019.
Mar-2019. Airports Authority of India awarded an INR6.5 billion (USD92 million) construction contract to Reliance Infrastructure for the development of New Rajkot International Airport. The project is expected to be completed within 30 months.

Airports Authority of India will develop and operate New Rajkot. The project will require an estimated investment of INR14.1 billion (USD199.1 million).
Jan-2019. Gujarat's Chief Minister Vijay Rupani stated the Gujarat State Government signed an MoU with Airports Authority of India (AAI) to develop New Rajkot International Airport. Mr Rupani reported the AAI is expected to invest INR25 billion (USD354.8 million) to develop New Rajkot, which will be equipped with a 3040m x 45m runway to accommodate code C aircraft.
Aug-2018. Airports Authority of India reissued a construction tender for the development of passenger terminal and associated facilities at New Rajkot International Airport.

Jan-2018. Airports Authority of India (AAI) issued an INR7.9 billion (USD125.1 million) construction tender for the development of New Rajkot International Airport, including detailed design and construction of runways, taxiways, apron, perimeter and access roads.
16-Oct-2017. India's Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF) provided environmental clearance for Airports Authority of India's New Rajkot International Airport development project.
09-Oct-2017. India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated he laid the foundation stone for the New Rajkot International Airport construction project. The new airport will be developed by Airports Authority of India (AAI) on a 2534 acre site located 27km from Rajkot Civil Airport and is estimated to require an investment of INR14.05 billion (USD214.77 million). It is expected to be equipped for domestic and international operations and construction works are scheduled to be complete by 2021.
Sep-2017. Airports Authority of India (AAI) chairman Guruprasad Mohapatra reported the Gujarat State Government agreed to give the AAI 2400 acres for the development of New Rajkot International Airport. Mr Mohapatra said the new airport development project is necessary because existing Rajkot Civil Airport can only support small turboprop aircraft operations due to land constraints. The chairman says the project is expected to require an investment of INR20 billion (USD312.4 million).
Jul-2017. Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) granted approval and 'site clearance' for the New Rajkot International Airport.
Apr-2017. Rajkot International Airport stated around 35ha of private agricultural land will need to be acquired for the airport, equating to around 4% of the total. However, forest land forms the largest portion of the government land earmarked for the project. 96% of the land to be acquired for the project belongs to the government.
Dec-2016. India's Gujarat Government Chief Minister Vijay Rupani advised Gujarat state "is ready to give 2800 acres of land to Rajkot district authorities" for the development of an international airport project.
Nov-2016. Airports Authority of India (AAI) chairman Dr Guruprasad Mohapatra confirmed a proposal has been received for a greenfield airport near Rajkot from the Gujarat Government. He said AAI is "preparing a feasibility report for Rajkot".
