About

Nabire Douw Aturure Airport is a new airport development project between the Nabire District Government and Provincial Government of Papua. The new airport will replace the existing Nabire Airport, as the current runway cannot be extended due to geographical conditions. Douw Aturure Airport will feature a 2500m by 30m runway spreading across 240ha. Under a five-year agreement, Indonesia's DGCA is responsible for developing landside and airside facilities according to environmental, safety and security regulations. Nabire Government will conduct land acquisition and assist DGCA with regulatory compliance. Papua Government will also be responsible for land acquisition and assist the DGCA with the construction of landside and airside facilities. Construction costs were not specified.

Dec-2015. Indonesia’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) signed an agreement with Nabire District Government and Provincial Government of Papua to collaborate on the development of the new Nabire Douw Aturure Airport. The new airport aims to replace the existing Nabire Airport, as its current runway cannot be extended due to unfavourable geographical condition. Douw Aturure Airport will be equip with a 2500m by 30m runway spreading across 240ha. Under the five-year agreement, DGCA is responsible for developing the airport’s landside and airside facilities according to environmental, safety and security regulations. Nabire Government will conduct land acquisition and assist DGCA with its duties relating to regulatory compliance. Papua Government will also be responsible for land acquisition in accordance with the airport's master plan. The provincial government will also assist DGCA with the construction of landside and airside facilities. Nabire Acting Regent Sendius Wonda said the new airport “will be able to accommodate widebody aircraft”, allowing direct services from Jakarta.
