New Jamshedpur International Airport, also known as Dhalbhumgarh Airport, is the proposed new airport located in Dhalbhumgarh to serve the city of Jamshedpur, Jharkhand State, India. The new airport will be constructed on the site of an abandoned World War II airfield approximately 60km from Jamshedpur.
Apr-2024. India's Jharkand State Forest Department approved the construction of Dhalbhumgarh Airport. The approval has been forwarded to India's Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC).
Apr-2021. Jharkhand will record the opening of four airports by 2024 under India's regional connectivity scheme (UDAN). Bokaro Airport will open in 2021, followed by Dumka Sido Kanhu Airport and Dhalbhumgarh Airport in 2022 and Hazaribagh Nawanwan Airport in 2024.

07-Jan-2020. East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Ravi Shankar Shukla said works to develop Dhalbhumgarh Airport will commence once Airports Authority of India (AAI) receives a no objection certificate from the district administration.
13-Jan-2020. India's Union Environment Ministry expert appraisal committee deferred the decision regarding Airports Authority of India (AAI) New Jamshedpur International Airport/Dhalbhumgarh Airport construction proposal.
Sep-2019. Jharkhand's Chief Minister Raghubar Das reported construction works for the development of Dhalbhumgarh Airport are expected to commence by the end of Oct-2019.
Jan-2019. East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar reported Jharkhand's Government has acquired 240 acres for phase one development of Dhalbhumgarh Airport and identified 545 acres to be acquired for phase two development. Mr Kumar said phase one works are expected to be completed by the end of 2020 in preparation for the launch of small aircraft services in Jan-2021.
Jan-2019. Jharkhand's Cabinet approved a proposal to establish a JV with Airports Authority of India to develop and operate Dhalbhumgarh Airport. The airport will be equipped with a 1745m x 30m runway to handle up to 72 seat aircraft during phase one development works, scheduled to commence on 24-Jan-2019.
Jan-2019. Jharkhand's Chief Minister Raghubar Das reported construction works for the development of Dhalbhumgarh Airport will commence by the end of Jan-2019. Airports Authority of India chairman Guruprasad Mohapatra said the airport will be developed in two phases, with phase one expected to be completed by Dec-2020.
Dec-2018. India's Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha reported Jharkhand's Government and Airports Authority of India are exploring plans to establish a JV to develop and operate multiple airports, including Dhalbhumgarh Airport, Hazaribagh Nawanwan Airport, Dumka Sido Kanhu Airport, Dhanbad Airport and Daltonganj Airport
Nov-2018. India's Civil Aviation Secretary R N Choubey confirmed India's Ministry of Civil Aviation plans to develop a 2000m airstrip near Jamshedpur into Dhalbhumgarh Airport.
Sep-2018. Jamshedpur Member of Parliament Bidyut Baran Mahato reported India's Ministry of Defence issued a no objection certificate (NOC) to the acquisition of 450 acres earmarked for the development of Dhalbhumgarh Airport. Mr Mahato said he is "hopeful" the Jharkhand State Government and Airports Authority of India will sign an agreement for the development of Dhalbhumgarh in the near future, adding that the airport will be equipped with a more than 2000m runway.
