About
New Cartagena Airport is a proposed development to serve the Bayunca region. The 362ha project is planned with a capacity for 17 million passengers p/a. The airport would operate in parallel with Cartagena Rafael Núñez International Airport.
May-2023. Colombia's Government announced plans to invest COP12.26 billion (USD2.76 million) towards the modernisation and expansion of Cartagena Rafael Núñez International Airport, San Andres Gustavo Rojas Pinilla International Airport, New Cartagena Airport, Cali Alfonso Bonilla Aragon Airport and Bogota El Dorado International Airport.
Aug-2019. Colombia's ANI presented the PPP project for the construction of Cartagena Airport City project. The project specifies the construction of a new airport 24km from Cartagena's historical centre, with the capacity for 17 million passengers p/a. The project would be carried out under a 30 year concession, out of which the first six years are for the construction of the airport. Project details are as follows:
- Total land area: 654ha;
- Phase I terminal: 72,000sqm;
- Complete terminal: 100,000sqm;
- Operational capacity: 40 operations p/h;
- Runways: One 3100m runway with the scalability for a second runway.
Mar-2018. Odinsa announced it will be the majority partner in the New Cartagena Airport construction project, acquiring 70% ownership of the initiative. The new airport will cost USD600 million. Odinsa is responsible for design, financing, construction, operation, commercial exploitation and maintenance. Phase I is specified as follows:
- Passenger design capacity: 9 million passengers p/a;
- Runway capacity: 25 movements per hour;
- Runway: 3100m x 45m with parallel taxiway;
- Aircraft positions: 11 aerobridges, six remote;
- Car park: 28,000sqm;
- Area: 564ha;
- Launch date: 2025.
Nov-2017. Colombia's Agencia Nacional de Infraestrutura (ANI) president Dimitri Zaninovich stated Cartagena Rafael Núñez International Airport will undergo expansion works to handle increase in demand until the greenfield New Cartagena Airport is constructed, scheduled for completion in 2025. Mr Zaninovich stated the Cartagena Airport project will add a new taxiway, international terminal and aerobridges.
