New Ahwaz Airport is a proposed airport construction project announced by the Iran Airports Company on 21-Jun-2014. The airport will be constructed to serve the city and capitalise on the expected increase in travel and trade from the discovery of an oil field nearby. It is believed that the USD507 million facility will replace the previous Ahwaz Airport. An engineering, procurement, construction and financing (EPCF) tender will be issued for the airport project, which is expected to be complete within a three-year construction period.
May-2019. Iran Airports & Air Navigation Company announced the successful completion of an ILS flight check at New Ahwaz Airport.
Sep-2017. Iran Airports and Air Navigation Company published a tender for the construction of a new airport in Ahwaz, noting a number of international companies have already registered interest in the project. The airport is expected to become operational in the next four to five years.
Aug-2017. Iran Airports and Air Navigation Company stated additional land was allocated to Ahwaz Airport in preparation for the construction of new airport.
Jan-2017. Iran Airports Company (IAC) deputy director for planning and supervision Gholam Hossein Bagherian hopes to finalise discussions by the end of the Iranian calendar year in Mar-2017 and said a public tender will be issued for investment in the New Ahwaz Airport and Chabahar Airport projects on a build-operate-transfer basis.
