Musandam Airport
About
Musandam Airport is a proposed project in Oman, along with two other, smaller airstrips at Madha and Diba.
Feb-2024. Oman Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) launched tenders for the design of the new Musandam Airport, scheduled to be completed in 2H2028 over three phases of construction. The airport is set to attract over 200,000 passengers annually and initially feature a 2520m long runway capable of handling A319 and Boeing 737 aircraft, with plans to extend the runway to 3300m to accommodate widebody aircraft including A330, A350, Boeing 777 and 787 models.
Jan-2024. Oman's Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) completed feasibility studies and selected a site for the construction of Musandam Airport. The airport will handle up to 250,000 passengers p/a, with construction expected to be complete by 2H2028.
Jun-2023. Oman Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) launched a consultancy services tender for the construction of Musandam Airport, a new airport in the Musandam Governorate intended to increase tourism, investment and development in the area. The successful bidder will be responsible for the airport's preliminary design and construction supervision. The airport is intended to supplant Khasab Airport, which cannot accommodate larger aircraft due to its geography.
Feb-2018. Oman's Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) CEO Mohammed bin Nasser al Zaabi stated a study was commissioned to evaluate the best location for a possible new airport in Musandam. The study's first phase is expected to take place over 2018, with a more detailed study to commence in 2019.
