About
Meemu Airport is a new airport development project to provide a new airport located within a 35 minute distance within each island of the Maldives. The project will require an estimated investment of MVR221.7 million (USD14.3 million) and was expected to be completed within 12 months from Apr-2021. Meemu Airport will be equipped with a 1200m x 30m runway.
Jul-2023. Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) reported it is proceeding with works to develop Meemu Airport, having achieved "60% project progress".
May-2023. Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) reported it commenced runway development works at Meemu Airport on 27-Apr-2023.
Mar-2023. Maldives' President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih reported Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) is on track to complete works to develop Meemu Airport by the end of 2023. Meemu Airport will require MVR221 million (USD14.3 million) to develop.
Sep-2022. Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), via its official Twitter account, announced runway reclamation works at Meemu Airport are 42% completed and the airport is on track to be completed by Jul-2023.
Aug-2022. Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) announced it is proceeding with works to develop Meemu Airport and the airport is on track to open in mid 2023.
Jul-2022. Meemu Airport will be constructed by Nov-2022 following the commencement of dredging for runway construction, according to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company CEO Adam Azim. The new airport's runway is expected to measure 1200m x 30m. The total investment in the construction project is estimated at MVR243.9 million (USD15.73 million).

Feb-2021. Maldives' Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure awarded Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) a contract to develop the airport on Meemu Atoll.
