About

Kuantan International Airport is an airport development project which will serve the city of Kuantan, Malaysia. The airport is being constructed as part of the Pahang Aerospace City project and will be operated by Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad.

Aug-2024. Malaysia's Transport Minister Anthony Loke said government will support a plan to construct Kuantan International Airport. Mr Loke noted the government has not yet received an aerodrome operator licence from the airport project's developers, stating: "Once the licence application is submitted, the ministry will conduct a traffic study to assess whether the proposed location is suitable as part of the National Airport Strategic Plan". Mr Loke added: "This project is a private investment, not an initiative under the Ministry of Transport. Our role is to facilitate the process. The developers must first obtain approval from the National Physical Planning Council".

May-2023. Pahang state plans to commence construction of a new, 3000 acre airport at Kuantan in 2024, as part of the Pahang Aerospace City project. The airport will be able to handle 250,000 passengers p/a. Construction is scheduled for completion in 2026. The site of Kuantan's existing airport will be controlled by Royal Malaysian Air Force following the construction of the new airport, and continue to be operated by Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad.

Jul-2022. Malaysia's Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy bin Wan Ismail said construction of new Kuantan International Airport is scheduled to commence in 2023 under a joint venture. MYR2 billion (USD452 million) is to be invested into the project. The airport is expected to open in 2026.
