Karwar Airport

Karwar Airport is a proposed airport development serving the city of Karwar, India. Karnataka State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation received approval from the Kartanakan Government to construct the new airport, part of a strategy to construct five new low-cost facilities in the state. The airport will be operated and maintained by private companies, and feature a small terminal building and a 1000m to 2000m runway. 

Jul-2020. Karnataka's Cabinet approved a proposal to develop Karwar Airport as a civil enclave to an Indian Navy airbase at Alageri. Karnataka's Government will establish a JV with Airports Authority of India to develop and operate the airport and works are expected to commence in mid 2021 and be completed by 2024. The project will require an estimated investment of INR278.4 million (USD3.7 million).

Dec-2019. India's Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) stated four unserved airports in Karnataka are available for bids under round four of the regional connectivity scheme (UDAN). The airports include Ballari Airport and Karwar Airport.

Oct-2015. Karnataka State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (KSIIDC) received approval from Karnataka's Government to develop new low-cost airports at Chikkamagaluru, Karwar, Kushalanagar, Raichur and Vijayapura. The airports will feature small terminal buildings and runways of 1000m to 2000m and will be operated and maintained by private companies. Each airport is expected to cost INR120 million (USD1.8 million) to INR150 million (USD2.3 million), depending on runway length.
