About
Karaman Airport is a proposed airport to serve the city of Karaman, Türkiye. The new airport is part of a government initiative to construct new airports under the "One airport every 100 kilometers" programme. Karaman Airport was targeted to open in 2020.
Mar-2018. Türkiye's Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications Ahmet Arslan identified the Karaman Airport project as ongoing. Mr Arslan said tenders will be invited for Karaman Airport later in 2018. Türkiye aims for all residents to have an airport within 100km from their residence by 2023.
Dec-2017. Türkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Karaman Airport is targeted to open in 2020.
Jun-2017. Türkiye's Minister of Transport, Maritime and Communications Ahmet Arslan plans to launch construction tenders for new airports in Karaman, Yozgat and Bayburt-Gümüşhane "this year". He said the Karaman and Yozgat tenders are expected to launch in Jul/Aug/Sep-2017, while Bayburt-Gümüşhane is more likely in Nov/Dec-2017.
Nov-2016. Türkiye's Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications reportedly established a new aim to provide all Turkish residents access to an airport every 100km by 2023. Shortlisted locations for new airports include Bayburt-Gumuşhane, Karaman, Nigde-Aksaray and western Antalya.
