Hassan Airport
About
Hassan (or Hasan) Airport is an airport project currently under development in India’s Karnataka State. The airport will be developed by Airports Authority of India.
Aug-2023. India's Member of Parliament for Madhugiri K N Rajanna reported works to develop Hassan Airport are more than 70% complete and are on track to be 100% complete by Dec-2023.
Apr-2022. Hassan Airport phase one development works are expected to be completed by Apr-2023. The project will require an estimated investment of INR1.9 billion (USD25 million) and the airport will be equipped with a 2800m runway. Phase one works commenced in Jan-2022.
Sep-2021. Hassan Deputy Commissioner R Girish reported works to develop Hassan Airport are expected commence in the near future.
May-2019. Karnataka's Government terminated its contract with Jupiter Aviation to develop Hassan Airport, citing non fulfilment of terms. The state government plans to partner with Airports Authority of India to complete development of and operate the airport.
Jun-2018. Karnataka Public Works Department Minister H D Revanna reported the Karnataka State Government plans to acquire an additional 200 acres for the development of Hassan Airport.
Jul-2015. India's Minister of State for Civil Aviation Dr Mahesh Sharma confirmed the government granted in principle approval for the development of 13 new airports at cities including Hassan. The estimated project cost is INR7.9 billion (USD123.6 million) over three phases. Some land is still to be acquired for Hassan Airport.
Jun-2015. Airports Authority of India (AAI) inspected the proposed site for Hassan Airport near Boovanahalli on 17-Jun-2015. AAI made the inspection to determine the feasibility of runway and terminal construction at the 536 acre site.
May-2015. Minister of State for Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma gave 'in principle' approval to 15 greenfield airport projects in the country, including Hassan.
