Dec-2024. Nigeria’s Ogun State Government reported Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport has commenced charter operations. The state is awaiting approval from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority for the airport to begin commercial operations. Ogun State’s Commissioner for Workers and Infrastructure stated the airport is 95% complete, with the main terminal to be commissioned by Jan-2025.

30-May-2024. Nigeria's Ogun State Government announced Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport received approval to handle unscheduled services. Approval for scheduled services is expected "soon".

08-May-2024. Air First president Gbolahan Abatan said the company plans to establish an MRO facility at Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport. Mr Abatan added Air First also intends to operate a training facility for pilots and engineers at the airport.

Apr-2024. Nigeria's Ogun State announced Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport is expected to commence operations in May-2024. Governor Dapo Abiodun said the airport's location has been approved as a free trade zone by Nigeria's Government.

Nov-2023. Ogun State's Governor Dapo Abiodun stated the government has received offers for the concession of the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport. Mr Abiodun said: "We have been receiving unsolicited offers from others who are desirous of concession of this airport and paying us back everything the airport costs us".

Oct-2023. Ogun State's Governor Dapo Abiodun stated a concession agreement for the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport project is expected to be signed "in the next 30 to 45 days". Mr Abiodun expects full approval for the airport to commence operations "sometime by the end of November, December". Mr Abiodun expects the airport to launch domestic and international services by the end of 2023.

Jul-2023. Ogun State's Governor Dapo Abiodun reported the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport project "is progressing as scheduled". Construction of the airport's terminal building and warehouse is ongoing. Mr Abiodun stated the airport will feature "other developmental initiatives" as part of an aerotropolis, including a 'Special Agro Processing Zone'. Mr Abiodun said he expects the airport to commence scheduled and non-scheduled operations "very soon", with the warehouse to act as a temporary terminal. He commented: "I am sure that in another six weeks, scheduled flights will begin to operate from here".

Mar-2023. Ogun State's Governor Dapo Abiodun confirmed that construction is continuing on a second aircraft apron and the passenger terminal at Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport. Mr Abiodun said the existing 82,000sqm apron is for cargo and the second apron will be dedicated to passenger operations. He also commented: "We envisaged that this airport will be expanding quite rapidly, so we wanted to make for a design that allows us to expand the airport in due course".

Feb-2023. Ogun State's Government announced the opening of the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport in the Ikenne Local Government Area. The first commercial flight at the airport was operated by ValueJet on 23-Feb-2023. Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun commented: "No doubt, this airport will become the alternative airport to the Murtala Muhammad International Airport and it is already being considered as the export terminal of non oil in the country".
